Sleeping & eating

The social hub of each programme is the Gap Medics house, where you’ll live together with other pre-med students from around the world. It’s a great way to make new friends that you’ll probably keep right through medical school, and means you have like-minded people to share the experience with.

Our idea for the houses is to bring together the best elements of a student house, a hotel and a family home. The result is comfortable, safe and secure accommodation in which you’re free to relax and come and go as you please. Bedrooms are generally shared with two or three other students of the same sex (although we’ll do our best to accommodate couples on request) and most have en-suite showers and toilets. We even have a housekeeper to clean your room!

We provide a full breakfast and hearty dinner at the houses Monday to Friday, and the kitchens are always well-stocked for you to help yourself to lunch and at weekends. Our friendly caterers prepare a varied mix of authentic local and international dishes, using fresh seasonal ingredients wherever possible, and we’re happy to cater for vegetarians and other dietary requirements. Regular barbecues add to the social buzz of the houses, and are a brilliant way to wind down after a day at the hospital.

We take great care to locate our houses in safe areas, with easy access to the hospitals and the town’s amenities. As an added reassurance, we have security guards on the gates 24 hours a day, ensuring that the only people with access to your house are your fellow students and our own staff.

The Gap Medics House, St Lucia

“Living in the house through this experience gave the opportunity to meet some amazing people and even work alongside them in hospital as a professional. It was nice to look forward to the end of the day where everyone was back from work and we all discussed how our day went and what we had all seen.” – Robyn, after her placement in Africa.
