Midwifery in the Caribbean

Future midwives who undertake placements in St. Lucia will benefit from experiencing very different environments for deliveries as well as postnatal and prenatal care. Working with a Government-run medical facility means that students can experience varying situations facing midwives at the forefront of patient care.

Our clinical teaching sessions, held three afternoons a week, are combined for students on our medical, nursing and midwifery programmes in order to give you a more complete insight into the work of the hospital team as a whole. There’s no shortage of specialist midwifery teaching though, as you’ll have a midwife or specialist nurse assigned as your personal student mentor for the whole time you’re on placement. Our partner hospital is within easy travelling distance of the Gap Medics house.
