Medical Work Experience Thailand

Thailand and our base in Chiang Mai is a unique place to gain some medical work experience to find out if a career in healthcare is for you and to use on your applications too. Its also a fantastic opportunity to explore which areas of medicine interest you, with students being able to spend time in our partner hospitals in the four main departments we work in:

• Paediatrics
• Obstetrics
• Internal Medicine
• General Surgery

Typical hours of work are between 8am and 3pm in the hospital with students’ also undertaking clinical teaching sessions three times per week after work. The idea of these sessions is that you will learn about various healthcare topics that will give you a valuable insight into healthcare in Thailand that you can directly compare with back home. Is also an ideal opportunity to ask questions and to get to know your mentor a little better too.

All students are placed with a senior consultant within the hospitals who acts as your student mentor in that particular department. Students are actively encouraged to ask questions and learn as much as possible from your time in the hospital and with your mentor.

Our partner hospitals are a great setting for medical work experience, with there being ample opportunities to work longer should you wish and to work over weekends too. The hospital has many internationally trained doctors who are all proud to be a part of the Gap Medics programme and keen to pass some of their knowledge onto the next generation of healthcare professionals.
