The tropical island paradise of St Lucia juts out of the Caribbean Sea 100 miles west of Barbados. It’s one of the region’s safest islands, and with direct flights from London and the USA is our most accessible programme.
Our placements are based in the island’s 165-bed government hospital, offering an unrivalled insight into work as a doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional in an island community. The programme also offers a taste of what it would be like to study medicine at one of the Caribbean’s offshore medical schools – an increasingly popular option for students from Europe and North America.
Outside of work, you can relax in the sunshine at the Gap Medics house (complete with our own pool on the barbecue terrace, naturally), head to the beach or take advantage of the world-class scuba diving and snorkelling that St Lucia has to offer. At weekends there are endless fantastic beaches to explore, jungle-covered mountains to climb, lively street festivals to dance through and hot springs to indulge in!
