Sixth Form Half Term Special

Our placements run all year round so you can choose any weekend of the year to travel on a Gap Medics placement but occasionally we have special 1-week projects aimed at specific students.

Are you in Year 12 or 13 and thinking of applying for medicine? Our Sixth Form Special in Tanzania allows you to gain a full week of clinical work experience during your half-term break. The timing of the project in February 2012 means its ideal for Year 13 students preparing for medical school or those in Year 12 wanting an introduction to clinical medicine.

Pre-med students on placement in Tanzania

Tanzania Sixth Form Special dates:

12th – 18th Feb 2012

The placement price of just £1190 includes a fully-supervised hospital placement, clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation in our own students house, food, airport pickup in Tanzania, local orientations, 24/7 support from our teams in Tanzania and the UK and lots of help with preparations for your trip.

Once in Tanzania, you will spend five days shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work, both on wards and in the operating theatre (depending on your exact placement). The particular doctor you are assigned to each day is your mentor – he or she will speak fluent English and provide on-the-go teaching about the different cases you encounter. You will also undertake 3 clinical teaching sessions in the hospital during the week, which is your chance to learn more about healthcare and to ask questions to the doctors too.

This intensive 1-week placement is ideal preparation for medical school and an invaluable opportunity to stand out on your applications too.

During the week you will focus on learning more about healthcare but there’s still plenty of time to explore the local area too with the help and guidance of our staff teams and you can also help out in the local orphanage too during the week. The journey back to the airport is an ideal opportunity for you to undertake a safari in Mikumi National Park which is the perfect way to end an amazing adventure with us in Tanzania!

February is a low season for the travel industry so flights to Tanzania are relatively cheap, especially from the UK. We reccomend students arrive into Dar Es Salaam on the 11th February 2012 via Emirates and depart from Dar Es Salaam on the 19th February 2012. Please be aware that places are limited and our special projects usually book up fast. Book Now, give us a call on 0191 2696818 or email info@gapmedics.com.
